So, it looks like I won't be getting this weekend off after all is said and done.
Why?
The woman who had been running our café up and quit yesterday. From what I understand it was quite the spectacle too. Too bad I missed it.
Anyhow, from what I understand, the café manager had been upset that she was expected to be there for 7:30am on the days that she worked to get the café set up for the day. By herself. Despite it not being busy enough to require two people on at that time of day. Besides, that was the usual start time when I first started there in the café over two years ago. It's not like she wasn't informed that she'd be working on her own.
She had threatened to quit over it a couple of weeks ago too but it was supposedly smoothed over. Obviously not.
So, yesterday, instead of asking for help when things started getting busy, she didn't ask until she was already in over her head and in a complete meltdown. It was bad enough that she yelled at the spa manager for not helping her while the spa manager was just sitting on her ass in the spa manager office...obviously not understanding that the spa manager is actually doing work in there. And when one of the spa attendants came to help her, the café manager yelled at the spa attendant to get out of the kitchen. My co-assistant general manager again tried to smooth things over, but that didn't work.
As a result it's all hands on deck this weekend. Which I'm okay with, honestly. Other than having to be to work for 7:30am for at least the next two days. I've run the café on my own before so it's not like I'm completely unaware of what to do. There's just a couple of menu items that I haven't made before but they'll be easy enough to figure out. And I know that on Saturday I will have help from 8am onwards.
We do have a person lined up to take over the café manager position, thankfully. She covered the position while the former café manager was on a week's vacation and did absolutely amazing. Plus she's much more personable than the previous person. Other than this weekend, I'm pretty sure we've got things sorted out. Thank fuck.
And, as I told a friend of mine who also knew the former café manager, I figured it was just a matter of time before the woman left. From the moment I met the woman I felt there was something off about her. It was her crazy eyes that did it for me. Oh well.
