Work update!!
Work is going to be interesting for at least the next couple of weeks - not only are we down a guest services agent, but our manager is now also out for the next couple of weeks on her doctor's orders.
Thankfully, I've worked understaffed in the past so this really isn't that huge of a deal for me. Besides, the two of us front desk agents work well as a team so I'm sure we'll handle this just fine. We do have our manager's boss to fall back on but she really isn't somebody I feel we can fully rely on. But with my wide range of experience, including time spent in management, and my coworker's experience and training in the industry we'll do just fine. Thank goodness we're a small set of properties!
Today I went in for what turned out to be three hours. During that time I confirmed with our onsite physio clinic that they'd be closed and called their patients schedule for today to reschedule as the clinic would remain closed today, answered a bunch of emails and FB messages, did up a bit of paperwork, and once the manager messaged to let me know what was going on I set about making sure that we'd be okay on the hotel side of things in terms of reservations.
Tomorrow I get to put together a shopping list of things we will need for the next week, especially for our special little Valentine's packages for the upcoming weekend. And I've already decided that if necessary I will spend Saturday night in the hotel in one of the rooms that is currently closed due to a noisy a/c unit. The noise doesn't bother me, and it will mean I'm on hand in case something goes sideways, and I won't have to try to ski down the hill from home to the hotel!
I'm pretty sure my boss is really happy that I have management skills and can think ahead when crunch time hits. It's honestly something I'm proud that I'm capable of - put me into the middle of a situation that could easily spin out of control and I manage to steer it in the right direction. After all is said and done I may have a bit of a breakdown, but nobody really sees that part so it's all good. The people that know what state I'm in are there to help keep me grounded, and that's what matters the most.
I think it's also a very good thing that I've got the training in event coordination because my boss used to do the majority of that, and with her being gone I'm going to be the one fielding most of those questions. Which reminds me...I need to get access to everything from my personal laptop again so I can stay on top of it from home or wherever I happen to be!
