Had a phone meeting with the big boss yesterday, and while it didn't accomplish everything I had hoped some things were straightened away. I now know that the spa manager has very little say over what I do and that I do not report to her while my actual boss is off. I report to the big boss right now, and only if I am working a spa shift do I have to take any direction from the spa manager. And even then I have the right to question her choices. It helps that I do not have a lot of hours up in the spa in the first place or it would likely get bad really quickly up there between her and I. I will also be taking on payroll for the entire property effective as of this pay period. As well as auditing the registers for the spa and hotel starting on my next shift this week. And for whatever reason, today the spa manager has decided that before every shift now that the spa will be having a small huddle. But doesn't say what will happen for those who start later - which will be pretty
It's a well known fact that I'm a huge fan of thrift shopping, even places like Value Village where I know that it's a for-profit business. At least they don't hide it like some *coughcoughSalvationArmycough* Anyhow, my best friend and I hit there twice this week, and on the last visit I scored a basically brand new Cuisinart (tm) Griddler Gourment for $9.99. A similar model retails at Canadian Tire for $139.99! And other than a thick layer of greasy dust - probably from sitting unused in somebody's kitchen for ages - it's perfect! When looking for the exact model as mine, I can only find it selling for $359 on Amazon. I think I got the score of a lifetime! At work, we have a similar model in the kitchen that we used to use when the café was open. It was used only as a sandwich/panini press, and it definitely got a lot of use. The plates were coated with burnt on crap that you couldn't get off without ruining what was left of the non-stick coating. So, when
So, I have realized that over all of my years working that several places of employment have either closed down or had a complete management/staff change-over since they screwed me over in some way. Yes, seriously. Never piss off a witch. Why? Well, settle in for a bit of a read. My first real paid job outside of babysitting was back in 1988 - an A&W drive-in restaurant, that last of it's kind in the region. I was hired to work as a cook, and I lasted about three months, give or take. It was a shitty job, but I was still proud to be working. I was 16, and still going to high school full time. I had done some paid stints with my schools cafeteria cooking for large banquets, but that didn't prepare me for the world of fast food. We didn't have timers like McD's has to know when food was finished cooking - we had to go by how it looked, and we certainly sent a LOT of raw food out of that kitchen. And I was often left alone during a rush to try to cook everything on my
Three days off back to back, and I'm very happy for it! I was supposed to be off all this week but because the spa manager couldn't get off her ass to find out if I would still get vacation pay with us being partially shut down I decided that I would work as many shifts as I could get this week. 28 hours is nothing to sneeze at, plus there is a good chance that I'll make another $50 on top of that if I have to stay at the hotel overnight. Anyhow, back to my three days off back to back. Yesterday was my first day off and I spent a good chunk of it just sleeping. I did go out grocery shopping and came home $200 shorter, but with five bags of groceries. Six if you include the small one I'd put the milk into. It's normal for me to sleep the first day of any block of days I get off, but it is not often I do my grocery shopping on that day. Perhaps I need to get into the habit because it frees up the next day for house stuff that needs to get done. Today, I was up and ou
