I am so looking forward to the hotel, B&B, and spa getting back to normal-ish staffing levels so that 1) I can get back to f/t hours, and 2) schedule myself for actual day shifts once in a while. And perhaps that will lead to getting a raise! As of now I am officially doing the scheduling for the hotel and B&B - the spa handles their own scheduling, even though they do borrow two of the housekeepers to help on the days they don't have their own spa attendant. I just make sure to enter that into my schedule when I do it up so I know not to call them in for housekeeping. I'm also officially doing the ordering for all the accommodations properties now, which requires me to find out what we need for each one, and do up a list for the owners to use to go shopping. If we need any alcohol I have to pull up the NLC website so I can get the SKU number for each item we are ordering from there as well as the size of the bottle and name of the item or we end up with some really che

Journal-tastic!

I seem to have developed an addiction to buying journals. I rarely really use them because I'm worried about screwing up and tearing out multiple pages, as evidenced any time I do use one. I end up not happy with my writing or printing, or how the pen is working on the paper, or any number of dumb things. But... I think I have found the type of journal that I will actually use! It's called a traveler's journal  and it is basically a cover that holds at least three replaceable notebooks. You can change out these individual notebooks as needed - you filled one up and need to take it out, or you need your journal to fill a particular purpose for a while. I've got three of the damn things. Two take A5 size notebooks, and the other I haven't quite figured out the paper size yet but it is narrower than my other two. I've already bought replacement journals for the A5 size journals, and once I figure out the size of my narrower one I will order refills for that one as

A morning at the spa :)

I work at a hotel that is connected to a spa, and on the slower days (Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday) we can get all services, other than massages, for half price. I've been with them for a year, but never had the chance to take advantage of that particular perk. Until within the past few weeks. We finally have an esthetician who can do artistic nails - she doesn't use tips, but uses forms to create the nail extension - and she's freaking amazing! Three weeks ago I booked myself in as her first client and got my nails done for the first time since before Christmas, and the first time where they're all gel instead of acrylic with gel polish. Today I had booked myself in for a fill, and figured I'd also get my first pedicure with a paraffin treatment. I figured why not, right? I get half off these services when I book them on the right days, and after how shitty the past few months have been I figured that I deserved a nice treat. I'm officially hooked now, I swea

MY BOSS IS BACK!

It was so awesome to come in for my shift today to find that my boss is back finally! I can't begin to express how happy this made me. Her and I have agreed to keep me doing the scheduling and ordering, and the other front desk agent will focus on event planning. Basically anything we can do to take the pressure off of our boss because we don't want a repeat of the last couple of months. Now to just get ramped up for the summer and get properly staffed for the busy season!

Trying to avoid burn-out...

...but I don't know how successful I will end up being. Things at the hotel seem to be sliding down into hell. We are down to only two front desk agents, our single housekeeper gets snagged by the spa twice a week to do the spa attendant stuff even if we need her for the hotel, and my direct manager still isn't back. And we're also covering the spa's email, FB chat, 3rd party chat, and their booking when the spa is closed. And that's on top of dealing with our own work and that of the oral health clinic and physiotherapy clinic that are currently housed in the hotel right now as well! We have been dealing with my direct manager's boss and she's pretty much next to useless. To say that she passes the buck or flat-out ignores things. She used to be the hotel manager and during that era she was the main reason there was such a high turn-over and the hotel had a lousy reputation. And for whatever reason, the owners decided to give her a higher position! Since th
