So, I didn't get everything out of the basement common area by the end of October. I got a LOT of it out, but there still remains some items that desperately need to go. I just haven't had the spoons to do it yet. Such is life when your health, mental and physical, decide to have other ideas. Obviously, I'm still working away at it all, and making progress too!

A week ago, during my last two days off from work, I finally put together the free shelving thingy I got from Temu and started putting things on it. Talk about a huge difference from having things all over the counter! Organization of my kettle, various water bottles and travel mugs, spices, cereal, and other things have been accomplished and I have actual working space on the counter now. Given the space and time (and another shelving thingy at some point) I'll hopefully be able to turn the top of my mini-fridge into a coffee station and get rid of the two milk-crates I'm currently using to hold canned goods and my coffee pods. The main thing holding me back on that is the fact that my landlady still has mattresses in the space where the plan has long been for me to put my bins of fabric and other things as I work through getting rid of more stuff. But, the space is otherwise usable for me at this point...my bedroom is a disaster zone though because I have almost everything stuffed into my bedroom right now. In time it will not be so cluttered, I just have to be be patient and also continue to get rid of stuff I really don't need or have the space for!

In health news, over the past little while I've been dealing with my diabetes being out of control. And I know it's not from me not taking my meds properly. I am not skipping them on a regular basis like I'm bad for doing - I rarely miss them these days, including the evening dose that I was horrible for remembering. I already know that I am likely to be put on an injectable when I have my next doctor's appointment, and I'm not freaking out about it for a change. It's an inevitable part of being diabetic for some people, and it's a common thing in my family, regardless of how well any of us stick to oral diabetic meds. There comes a time when our body just doesn't produce enough insulin, even with the help of TWO oral meds, and we need something more. Such is life.

In light of that inevitability, I bought a single-burner hotplate today so that I can cook more in my private space. Once the last pre-made meal is gone, no more micro-wave meals for me! I've already got an air fryer, a toaster oven, and a contact grill, so the last thing I needed was a hotplate. Which I now have in my hot little hands! I had been contemplating getting a microwave, but that will just allow me to continue to be too lazy for my own health needs. And I bought frozen veggies and lean meats today while grocery shopping, to help cut down on added sugars and salts.

And once I've done more research, I plan on planning meals that include more foods that are low on the glycemic index. More protein, less carbs, and all that fun stuff. Of course, I will still have my occasional cheat items because I don't want my diet to get too boring! And some days I just need my comfort food - hello mashed potatoes!

I already eat some items that are lower on the glycemic index, so now it's time to look for lower GI substitutes for some of the other items I've long lived on. My fingers are crossed that combined with a better diet, that I can continue to lose weight and get my diabetes under tight control.

In the meantime, I'm off to go play a video game I splurged on yesterday - Dragon Age: the Veilguard!
