Work and More 'Halt and Catch Fire' Thoughts
At work as usual. I'm really not doing a whole lot right now because I'm just not feeling it. I've got at least two weeks of schedules done so I don't have to rush through that right now, and I've got most of a third week's schedule done.
Watching the final season of Halt and Catch Fire, and remembering yet more of the technical advances I've witness. I remember well having to pay the overage on the amount of bandwidth we used, instead of there being no limit. I seem to recall that the overage issue ended when we switched to cable internet. I also meant the end of my phone line being utilized by the rest of my family so they could connect to the internet.
These days I don't even have a landline although I know that if I had a regular phone I could plug it in to dial 911 if I had to. Instead, my daughter and I each have pay-as-you-go phones. This started back when neither of us were home a whole lot as we were both in university. And eventually, about halfway through my third year at university, I decided to make the switch to a contracted cell phone, cut the landline and cable, and keep the internet. Of course the provider tried to talk me into keeping everything, but the retention offer still cost more than it would to just simply cut the landline and cable. And I haven't looked back.
I will admit that I missed some of my shows that I watched on a regular basis, but there were ways to watch them if one knew how to find them. And I did. I still do. And I don't mean via streaming services, either.
I also gave up the cellphone contract when I realized that I was wasting money on something I didn't fully utilize. I dropped down to pay-as-you-go service, and I still have it. I prefer it, to be honest. I don't need a lot of data as I usually connect to the internet via WiFi to do a lot of things online. Mind you, I do have one of newest Samsung smartphones on the market, thanks to a friend who decided that she hated it and downgraded to last year's model. Oh well, such is life sometimes.
Right now, I think I'm going to work on some of my writing. It is what I bought the Chromebook for in the first place, so perhaps instead of blogging and farting around online I should actually do some writing. Right?
