Due to having been a single parent for most of my daughter's life she usually does something for me for Father's Day. Due to my work shifts it's pretty difficult to get together for a meal or something, so this year my kid bought me a Magic Bullet mini blender. Something just big enough to make single-serve smoothies and shakes for myself.
I've been contemplating purchasing a blender of some sort anyways, and I've heard all sorts of good things about the Magic Bullet. And they've got them on a really good deal on Amazon right now, so with my daughter's permission I ordered one on her card. It should arrive Sunday, and I'm hoping to be able to use it pretty much right away. Well, once I get home from work, that is.
Honestly, I'm excited to get this into my hot little hands. I have a feeling that I will be pretty much living off of smoothies and healthy shakes instead of cooking meals that will cause my kitchen to get entirely too hot during the summer. Besides, there are times when I prefer to live on a liquid diet of sorts. Consommés, cream soups, and the like. Hell, if they weren't so expensive I'd have Boost drinks on hand all the time, but I can't really swing $18 per 6-pack and I haven't seen them go on sale for under $10 per 6-pack for years. Bleh.
This is the time of year where frozen fruit is relatively cheap enough to keep on hand, along with soy milk if I want to use that instead of skim milk. I may see if it is possible to get my hands on lactose-free yogurt to use for my smoothies. We'll see, I suppose.
In other news, my daughter messaged me to let me know that she managed to destroy yet another kettle. Like me, she prefers electric kettles that will shut themselves off once they are boiled, but her housemates had a stove-top kettle. Until today when she boiled it dry and the bottom of the kettle basically melted off. One of her roomies ordered an electric kettle online and she paid them back for it. It was only a matter of time, and now her roomies understand why she had been pushing them to buy one since she moved in because she's already destroyed two while we still lived together. Sure, she could use a regular pot to boil water in for her coffee, but she would risk destroying it the same way she has with three different stove-top kettles. She's consistent LOL
Also, I am still doing my best to keep up with meal prep each week. On one of my days off each week I make a large pot of something that I can freeze in single servings for my week of work. And if I don't eat all of the prepped meals, they stay in the freezer until I decide to eat them. I may end up with enough frozen meals to allow me to have a week where I don't have to deal with meal prep for the next week. Heh.
Anyhow, it is probably time for me to find something to do. I always have some writing I should be doing so perhaps that is what I should be doing now :P
