Life updates..

Hours are picking up at the hotel, and this weekend I'll be working until midnight for the first time since before the first shut-down. How long it will keep up is anybody's guess, but I know that as one of the two people that were brought back last summer, that I'll get to keep a good chunk of my hours into the slow season. And there is always EI to pull me through the slow season, if necessary.

I've been making a bit of an attempt to diversify my wardrobe colours a bit lately. I still wear mostly black, but once in a while I'll add a pop of colour. For example, today I am wearing a mustard yellow top with my black pants and black cardigan. And instead of the black sneakers I wore for the past two shifts I'm wearing black flats. Yesterday I wore a teal green t-shirt with my black pants and cardigan, but had on a pair of sneakers.

On my next set of days off I really need to go through my clothes again as I recently brought home another pile of clothing, and this morning I realized that I really don't have a lot that is entirely suitable for work. Oops. So, I need to weed through everything to make room in my closet and storage cubes. I have a bunch of t-shirts that I can't wear for work so those are going to get tossed into a storage cube along with my yoga pants and colourful leggings as they are not work-appropriate. And then fix a blouse that I've needed to fix for months, and so on and so forth. It just never ends, I swear.

I've also got to gut my kitchen and living room yet again. My pack rat tendencies have ramped up again, and it's gotten pretty bad. Add my daughter's hoarding tendencies into the mix and you've got a disaster on your hands. The plan is to bag up as much stuff as I can and get it taken down to the work trash and cardboard bins, but trying to find the time to do that isn't always easy.

I did get my first vaccine shot last week, and I find that I've been a bit more tired than usual. Mind you, I usually do have a nap after work during the day anyway. I pin it on being old, but it is likely more that I am wiped out after having to be 'on' for several hours at a time. I nap after going shopping too, for that matter. And I tend to sleep until an hour before my shift starts, even though I know I've got stuff I could be doing instead of sleeping the day away.

But I do really need to get on top of the mess and stay on top of it before it gets much worse. I will be buying full size garbage cans for each room too, to help with the issue of just leaving stuff laying around with the idea of putting it into the bin when I get up...and then promptly leaving it there. I have decided though that I'm done buying paper plates and bowls, and disposable cutlery - I'm just going to have to suck it up and do the damn dishes. Ugh. The one thing I absolutely hate doing. I'd rather scrub the kitchen floor with a toothbrush, but they need to be done. I think I will be tossing out the current set of cutlery though as it's gotten really gross - I have an un-opened set tucked away after buying them at a really good price.

Part of me is so tempted to just toss absolutely everything out and start over, but that's an expensive prospect. And while the kid and I are making better money than we have over the years, neither of us really want to go about replacing all the kitchen stuff.

Oh, and today marks four years since I got my diabetes diagnosis. Four years of poking my finger to do blood sugar tests, having to take meds, and try to watch what I eat. I have lost weight since that day four years ago, and I've tried to change up my diet, but it's not all that easy. Such is life, but I'll keep working at it.
