Hotel Life...*sigh*

Apparently we've got a part-time front desk agent being trained in starting on Wednesday. She used to work the desk at the spa connected to us, so my manager figured that would make her a decent fit at the hotel.

Well, I mentioned to a couple of the spa desk girls that we've got this new girl training in...and...oof. It sounds like we may have our work cut out for us with her. From what I understand, she's really sweet, but she can't remember a damn thing. One of the girls upstairs said that she was called by this girl several times each shift the girl worked, asking how to do something that she'd done dozens of times each day. You'd think that this person would take notes, but apparently she refuses to take notes. I will eventually get to the point where I refuse to answer my phone if she does that to me. I have no patience for willfully stupid people like that.

I suppose I should be grateful though that we are getting a new part-timer to help us out, but I'm worried that she really won't be all that helpful in the scheme of things. This business is not a good fit for somebody who isn't able to absorb information and think on their feet. Perhaps in a larger hotel where there are several employees on at all times, but not one that is run on a shoestring like ours is where there is routinely only one person on at the front desk from about 2pm-ish one M-F, and only one at a time on weekends no matter how busy it gets at the hotel. It was bad enough when I received multiple calls and texts from one of the folks who trained me in for the front desk job when she helped us out for a few days when we were stretched really thin a couple of months ago...her excuse is that she had forgotten how to do the job. Like, seriously?

Oh well, such is life, right? At least I've got a job that I love for the most part. And I'm spending another night at the hotel tonight due to how many rooms we have rented for the night. But as much as I love being able to stay overnight here once in a while, I'm starting to get a little tired of it. Especially when the upper management keeps talking about having a roving night person who goes between all our properties and will eliminate the necessity of having somebody on-site on busy nights at the hotel.

In some ways, I think we should bring back some sort of overnight shift where we have somebody stationed at the hotel front desk for at least Friday and Saturday nights. Even if that's the only two shifts the person works, that would probably work out just fine. Besides, they only really want the overnights watched for security reasons as we no longer require an audit shift - the closing desk agent basically handles the audit now and I can get it done inside of twenty minutes on night when everything has gone to shit and nothing was entered in correctly. And I suck at math!
