Getting old? Purchased a mattress protector and two pillow protectors in the past couple of days...

So, I've done something I know for a fact my mother never did - I purchased a mattress protector and two pillow protectors! My mother never saw the value in them, but after I replaced my old mattress and got the new one I find that I want it to last a long time without getting stains all over it. And sweat does stain, trust me!

And as I bought two brand new pillows today to replace a couple of mine that are stained yellow from sweat and drool, I bought pillow protectors for them. I found that it didn't matter how much bleach (and bluing) I bought to get rid of the yellow staining that it simply would not budge. They look completely awful despite only buying them a few years ago and washing them on a regular basis. I want the new ones to look nice for longer, so I got the protectors for them.

And I'm going to be going down to two pillows on my bed instead of four. I usually stack them in twos, but it's not good for my neck, especially as I'm a side sleeper. And it's not like I share my bed with anybody other than my two cats, so having a million pillows just isn't worth it for me anymore.

I know back in December when I spent the night at my hotel that I only slept on one pillow and I had a really decent sleep for a change, so it's time to do the same here.

Also, the fact that we use mattress and pillow protectors at the hotel had started me thinking about buying them for my own bed. Until this past year, I had never owned a good brand new mattress. Used - either bought second-hand, or passed down in some way - was what I went with for pretty much all my life. Only my kid got the new, good stuff. Buying brand new mattresses are not cheap, and if you want them to last, you need to invest a bit to protect your investment. And yes, mattresses are an investment for your health! I can honestly say that I haven't had such a good sleep in years.

I know my kid likes my bed too - any chance she gets, she comes in and flops on my bed to talk to me while I'm on my computer. I've offered to find her one like mine, but she doesn't want one as big as mine. Which I can fully understand. She's happy on a twin mattress, where I tend to move around too much for that to be feasible. I just have to wait until the mattresses go on sale again because right now a twin mattress of the same brand and style as my double costs a hell of a lot more than I paid for the mattress and bedframe combined!

Anyhow, time for me to deal with the new pillows for my bed, and bag up the old ones to be tossed out. Donating them would only be a waste because they are stained and beat to snot.
