Another one in the bin, and I'm not dead yet
Convention is officially over for this year, and my feet are very grateful!
Other than a few hiccups, things ran pretty good for the most part. And I have a job that I will be taking on for the foreseeable future - the convention information desk. Apparently it hasn't had somebody officially taking care of this for a few years now, and it shows. Going forward this will be different!
I've already made notes for what I want to implement for next year, so it should make for an easier time of it for the next convention. And, unlike the last person that was given nominal responsibility for it last year, I actually take my responsibilities seriously. As in, I show up on damn time to get things organized and ready to go for the day, and I don't make excuses for being late or simply just not doing my job in the first place.
I know that some people figure that a volunteer position isn't all that important, but that's besides the point entirely. Do do a job half-assed really doesn't impress anybody at all, and it pisses off a whole lot of folks who are relying on you.
So, I decided that instead of some random committee member being assigned a position they clearly don't want to do that I'd take it on. Besides, it's the sort of job I do well at anyways - I'm a font of useless information, and can pick up on the information that needs to be disseminated quickly. Plus, the fact that I can man the radio equipment and assign security responsibilities from the same spot is always good. Our tech guy seemed very happy that he didn't have to worry about radios at all today because I kept the batteries charged and kept the radio in/out log in order, and that I handled packing everything away at the end of today really impressed him. Hell, it's not like I'm unaccustomed to handling this sort of stuff, and if it gives him one less thing to worry about, the better, right?
I should be having a nap before heading down for supper with the rest of the committee, but I'm still wired for sound. This is normal for me after a convention and I know that I'll pay for it tomorrow, but I'd already warned work that I was going to be a state in the morning...I just haven't told them that it will likely last all week because I'm not getting my post-con recovery day like I had originally intended. Damn having to start training for a new contract starting tomorrow...puts a cramp into my plans. But such is life sometimes!
So, plan for tonight is to eat with the committee, find out when/where we're going to start our post-con drinking and attend that, have a shower at some ungodly hour before crawling into bed, and getting up by 6:30am in order to be functional enough to go to work for a 7:30am start time.
I am going to be so dead tomorrow...
