Had a phone meeting with the big boss yesterday, and while it didn't accomplish everything I had hoped some things were straightened away.
I now know that the spa manager has very little say over what I do and that I do not report to her while my actual boss is off. I report to the big boss right now, and only if I am working a spa shift do I have to take any direction from the spa manager. And even then I have the right to question her choices. It helps that I do not have a lot of hours up in the spa in the first place or it would likely get bad really quickly up there between her and I.
I will also be taking on payroll for the entire property effective as of this pay period. As well as auditing the registers for the spa and hotel starting on my next shift this week.
And for whatever reason, today the spa manager has decided that before every shift now that the spa will be having a small huddle. But doesn't say what will happen for those who start later - which will be pretty much any time I work up at the spa because lately I do not start until the place has been open for at least 30 minutes. And even if I was the opener, I tend to get there with about 5-10 minutes until the start of my shift. Why? Because unless I sign in early I'm not getting paid for that fucking huddle. I did ask on the FB group about it and her response is one of her typical no-brain ones - that those who start late can get in on the next one. Of course, that doesn't include the spa desk person whose shift starts at 9:30am. And it likely doesn't include the RMTs. Way to make them feel left out. And I got another response - this is being done on the part of the so-called <product> mentor. Despite the fact that the RMTs also use those products, or at least the essential oils, in their massages. Seeing as how I'm allowed to question the spa manager about things, this has just been added to my list.
Now I can see WHY there has been so many issues with them - they know that the spa manager doesn't think about them. I, and the RMTs, see it every fucking Tuesday when we do our best to get set up on the hotel level for them to do massages in a space that is NOT ideal at all, and the spa manager deciding that the RMTs don't need to go up to the spa to get their files or supplies. When I'm working on Tuesday you'd best believe that I open the spa up for them to get into the file room and into their lockers. Considering that these are the same people who are expected to set up a file purge day when the spa is closed and are trusted up there without a manager watching them. Ugh.
I know that right now the spa manager is just trying to get everybody on her side right now because she knows that there will be some major changes coming along once we are able to open back up fully again. I've been told that the big boss and the owner are aware that she's next to useless, so why they let her come back after the bullshit she pulled last summer is beyond me. But if she pulls it again, I'm high enough on the totem pole now that I can be sure that my opinion on her and her cronies' actions will be listened to. Everybody going on leave at the same time with the idea that they are going to fuck over the big boss and the owner? Yeah, they may have gotten away with it once, but I'm going to do everything I can to ensure none of them come back if they pull the same shit this summer.
I've been saying for several weeks now that the big boss has been giving the spa manager enough rope to hang herself. And it seems like I'll be watching this play out for the next however long. It also means that I will be sticking around a little while longer. I will be looking for another job while all this is going on though because if nothing really changes, and the spa manager is kept on despite being a useless twat, I will not be able to stick around without losing my mind. I hate watching things go to shit when I know that there is a way out of it, even if it means the spa manager gets fired and takes her cronies with her. We were in the process of rebuilding before the spa manager came back after she failed to get her own spa business started, and we can do it again. Successfully, without her and her little group being allowed to come back. And her sister would also be shown the door as well - having her there as an employee is bad all the way across the board, honestly. The sister seems to feel that she can do whatever she wants, excluding those she doesn't like or doesn't feel should have any part of the team. It's no fucking wonder the RMTs have been getting so frustrated - as a result of this being a long-term issue we've lost RMTs, and we will lose more if people can't get their heads out of their asses.
I'm feeling so done with everything at the spa. Keep me down at the hotel where my contact with the spa is very minimal, and I will make the decision as to whether or not the hotel will keep helping the spa in any way. It was bad enough yesterday that I did very few spa bookings, telling callers for the spa to call up there when the spa is actually open. Why? Because I was busy as hell dealing with accommodations issues that were cropping up, as well as trying to keep on top of the health clinic stuff due to them not having a desk person available. PLUS dealing with the spa RMTs' issues, such a room conflicts with health clinic staff needing to be in the same damn room at the same damn time.
There is a reason I told the spa manager that she couldn't just keep shoving the RMTs into the health clinic space on Tuesdays because those rooms would not always be available when the RMTs had appointments booked. It was only by sheer fluke that we managed to move things around in the clinic space because the acupuncturist's last client cancelled which opened up her room for the first client of the medical podiatrist. If that hadn't happened, we'd have been screwed for space.
I can tell you that if it appears that it will happen again this coming Tuesday, I'm going to be cancelling spa massages for the affected rooms.
