Life updates

I haven't written here since before I took my birthday week off from work, but things have happened! Mostly good things too!

I know I was worried when the spa manager was due to come back because I didn't know where that would leave me in terms of hours, position, etc. But I didn't need to worry about any of it. Oh, we still have some things to hammer out but it could have been so much worse than it ended up being.

I have my own office now. Well, mostly my own. As the one employee between the hotel and spa that can pretty much do everything I have a space from which I can do everything. Answering calls for the hotel, spa, and medical services we offer on the hotel level, and using the various booking systems for all of that as well. My official title is Guest Services Manager, and I can step into the roll of both the spa manager and accommodiations manager as needed. And I get paid the most I've been paid in years, outside of the time I worked in a finishing shop...and I have a feeling that I may actually make more than I did even then!

I am still at the spa front desk a fair bit, especially when we don't have others scheduled to cover. I can still do some of my work from the front desk, but not all the calls I can handle are routed to the front desk. Such is life. So, when I do get the chance to be off by myself in my office I can shut the door and handle the various calls, emails, and texts. As well as slowly work on auditing the spa paperwork since I started primarily started working up at the spa, and even a good chunk of the paperwork before then as it wasn't touched. This is when my bookkeepping skills come in handy!

I have also been doing much more in terms of self-care. I work at a spa so it only makes sense that I get some of the services done on myself so that I can better recommend the services to people, right? I've gotten a couple of facials, pedicures, and manicures done now, as well as getting my gel nails done on the regular. At home I have various Aveda products for my hair and skin, and I've even picked up a tube of Eyenvy - a product that is supposed to aid in creating eyelashes and eyebrows that are longer, thicker, and more voluminous. I just applied it for the first time tonight so we'll see in a month how it's going with that.

I've also got my hair figured out after the blonde disaster I had going on a few weeks ago. Last weekend I decided that I didn't want blue hair anymore so I used 30 volume developer with Blue Magic lightening powder to get most of it out, then went in the next day with 10 volume developer with more Blue Magic to get the remaining pale blue tint out of my hair. And instead of the blotchy mess I had last time, I got it all even! I left it blonde for a day and was going to tone it if I'd gotten to Sally's Beauty Supply to get some Wella T18 toner. Instead I bought a box of Schwartzcraft got2be metallics hair colour in silver/steel. And I absolutely love it! I've even got shampoo to help keep the colour between touch-ups. Plus, I have two boxes of the same colour hair dye stocked up in my bathroom for when I have to touch it up again - bleach my roots, and apply the colour primarily to my bleached roots, not even needing an entire box. Thank goodness for having a big set of mixing bowls and brushes!

Speaking of brushes, I have decided that I need to get an actual set of makeup brushes instead of the hodge podge collection I have of them right now. Especially as I have been making more of an attempt to wear makeup for work. Four of the past five shifts I worked have seen me wearing make up - no foundation/liquid make up though because for some reason I can't find either bottle of the stuff I bought a few months ago, not that I really need it anyway. But I have come to realize that there are some brushes I need but simply don't have for those days I have the metaphoric spoons to do an elaborate makeup look.

Yes, I have actually been wearing makeup lately, and even did a halfway decent cut crease yesterday, despite not having all the right tools to make it easier. Go me?

Plus, we FINALLY have a Torrid store here! Sure, I've been finding some nice peices through thrift stores, but there is something so nice about being able to go into the store and buy it brand new for myself. I have several pieces in my wardrobe now, but it is so nice to be able to go onto their website and then pick up the same items directly at the store. Shipping is horrendous and shipping to the store is only for US customers. Which sucks, but such is life sometimes, right? Of course, some of the items I want are online exclusives that I can't bring myself to ordering, but if they have my size when they throw a big sale online I'll seriously considering doing an online order.

My wardrobe was always very dark, but now that I'm primarily at the spa it's almost completely black. And the gothier elements from Torrid have definitely made a huge difference in what I wear to work. Hello Corporate Goth! Or at least Guest Services Goth. And the more accessories and stuff I add, the better :)

Anyhow, I need to get my ass into bed and hope that my sugar levels has gone down to a manageable level by morning or I'll be heading to the ER instead of work. Woo. It will mean a shot of fast-acting insulin and then monitoring to see how my body responds to the stuff. Bonus is if that is what I have to do then I will likely be switched from oral meds over to insulin. Fuckies.
