Adulting? A little bit?

Today I got a one month refill on my meds for $33 - seven different meds, 30 days worth of each. This used to cost me over $100/month because I didn't have health benefits. Now I've got them, and it covers me all the way back to October 1st of this year. And when my doctor decides to put me insulin I've got decent coverage for diabetic meds and supplies now. I don't care that my employer doesn't cover much of my insurance because it is still cheaper than paying full price for my meds. Woo?

I also purchased a wireless keyboard and a new wireless mouse to use with my Chromebook. I've been doing the best I could with the native keyboard and touchpad on the thing, but it's been so frustrating. The touchpad can't be turned off so every time I would type on the keyboard I would mess up the font size and have to stop to fix that. Not to mention that the mousepad isn't all that responsive or precise. And I got a new mini wireless mouse too. Yay for me investing in my writing career.

I also took my first online class today from Shaw Academy. I won it through the McDonald's Monopoly game recently, and I chose a course on makeup. Why? Because it can help me at work. In the new year we are going to be revamping our makeup table so that we can start selling more makeup product. I have no intention of being an actual makeup artist, especially because I know I won't earn a whole lot for it. I'm doing it so I can advise customers on the products and how to apply it for the best results. Who knows, maybe I will get a few people wanting me to teach them how to actually apply the products.

Also, the glasses I'd ordered three weeks ago arrived in the mail today. I'd been worried that they would be a total fail, but I think I did pretty good at figuring out my pupillary distance. So far, no headache from adjusting to them. If anything, I'd been dealing with headaches from my old glasses. Now I just need to pick up a pair of reading glasses to deal with any close-up stuff I have to do - it's cheaper than progressives or bifocals, and easier to deal with. The nice thing is that my extended medical covers $200 for glasses every two years - and the pair I received today cost me about $50, taxes in. This means I can get another couple of pairs if I want to and get reimbursed. Plus, I found an optometrist who is reasonably priced so I can afford to pay for my exams out of pocket each year if I need it, without having to get a special authorization due to my diabetes.

Today I also started picking away at the disaster that has been my kitchen for entirely too long. I gave up cleaning the kitchen for a few reasons, one of which was to prove who actually makes the most mess in the kitchen. Quick note: it sure ain't me! But I've gotten tired of dealing with having no clean dishes and always using disposable cutlery, plates, and bowls. I just did the second load of dishes - they are currently air drying with a dish towel over them. I hope we can stay on top of the dishes after this, because it took me entirely longer than it should have to get these two loads done. And, no, I'm not finished yet. I still have pots and pans to do. Entirely too many. Ugh.

I think I am going to head to bed early tonight. I have to be at work for 8am yet again and I don't want to sleep in. Especially because I want to put makeup on before I leave the house for work in the morning...and I'm not much of a morning person :/
