New bed!
The bed is all put together and the mattress is on it. I couldn't find the fitted sheet I bought for it to use while waiting for the set I bought, so I just tossed the comforters on it for now. It's not like I've been sleeping under them lately with how warm my apartment has been. I've got a throw blanket I've been using to cover up with and that's good enough.
I cleared enough space to get the bed set up, but now I have to start cleaning in earnest. Where my bed currently is isn't where I plan on keeping it, but I really can't move anything around while I've got the mess going on. Plus I still have to clear the living room enough to move my desk into one of the corners of it. I did, however, manage to fill one garbage bag with junk from what had managed to migrate under my bed.
On my old bed I had a fancy mattress pad and cover, but it's a twin so it won't fit my new bed. My kid is looking very forward to getting that for their bed - I gave it a good wash today and it's still in the dryer. Plus they're also taking my old mattress and piling it on top of their current one. At least it won't go to waste. And my kid can get comfortable on pretty much anything, where I was finding it too difficult to sleep on my old bed. But I've also got a screwed up back so I needed something with better support anyway.
Right now my back is hating me for all the time I spent sitting on the floor and bending over funny to put my bed frame together. But it's entirely worth it! This is what my new bed frame looks like (not my actual bed - it's a pic taken from Amazon to show what the frame looks like):
I have wanted a bed frame like this for years, and now I finally have one! And I love that it has little things on the side to help keep the mattress from shifting all over the place. It is one of those frames that don't require a box spring, and there's enough space underneath that I can store my suitcases and a couple of underbed storage bins too. Storage space is always a bonus.
I think my cats are going to be at a loss when it comes to sleeping space in the bigger bed. They've been so used to having to move out of the way every time I shift at night, but now - provided they aren't sleeping ON me - they shouldn't have to. I do know that it is going to take some time for me to get used to not waking up every time I go to roll over in bed at night.
I know I want to buy some more bedding for my new bed. I will need more than one set of sheets, especially as I don't always strip my bed and wash the sheets on the same day. Especially when one of the cats decides to put on everything. I may even invest in a fancy new comforter or something for it! Something washable, of course, because of my cats, but still something different for a change.
My pain meds for my back are kicking in so it's time for me to go crawl into my nice new bed for the first time :)
