I SHAVED OFF MY EYEBROWS!
Or, what was left of them.
Saturday night I was getting ready to go out to a club. It's not something I do very often anyway but it was fetish night at the only gay club here in the city. And I was going to be meeting up with friends there. So I figured that I'd put a bit of effort into my look for a change.
Usually I just throw on black pants, black t-shirt, tie my hair back, and maybe put on some makeup in a Goth-ish style.
Hello to the black dress (with amazing pockets!), black tights that went over the knee, comfy black fabric Mary Janes, and hair and makeup inspired by classic Goth styling. Because I wanted my eyebrows a certain way it was necessary to shave my natural eyebrows off.
My eyebrows used to grow in really thick and were easy to style using some brow gel or a bit of petroleum jelly. But over the past several years my eyebrows have become very sparse, much like the rest of my body hair. It's probably a bit TMI but I don't even have to shave my legs or armpits all that often - I can go a couple of months between shaves before I absolutely have to shave again. It's probably due to menopausal hormone changes that everything but the hair on the top of my head grows in thin and sparse...just like how I've started sprouting darker hair around my mouth (I pluck these), and ditto for the other random bits of hair that sometimes sprout on my chin or cheeks. Bleh. Growing old sucks sometimes.
So, what was left of my natural eyebrows were shaved off on Saturday.
No, I didn't just grab the nearest Daisy or Soleil razor off my shelf and go to town. I actually have been contemplating shaving my eyebrows off for ages so I already had proper eyebrow razors on hand. I use their Equate brand of 'eyebrow shapers' and I find they do the trick just fine...considering that I'd never used them until this past Sunday.
I'm happy with the result so far, and I'm not even annoyed with the fact that I have to draw on a set of eyebrows before I leave my house each day. I have a couple of different brow pencils that I use to draw the shape I want and fill in whatever needs to be filled in. I also have a blank canvas to play around with different eyebrow shapes, colours, and designs. This makes my creative soul so happy!
I have been contemplating recording some videos, including some 'get-ready-with-me' type of videos, for makeup looks. As an older Goth I don't necessarily go for the white face look because it tends to accentuate the fine lines and crepe-like skin I've got going on. I did mention that I'm old, right? I usually go for a very pale foundation and pressed powder, preferably something not overly expensive - I love Sephora but I'm not exactly rolling in money so I will often buy stuff from the drugstore or Walmart these days. Although a couple of years ago I went a bit crazy during E.L.F.'s year-end sale and bought a metric shit-ton of brushes and makeup, whether I needed them or not. And the fact that I can go to Walmart or Dominion and buy E.L.F. makes me very happy. Oh, and NYX Total Control drop foundation is to die for - I use the palest shade of this as my base for all my usual Goth looks.
Anyhow, I should maybe get my ass in gear to get some stuff done around the house...I've already got today's eyebrows drawn on because I had to go outside long enough to take a couple bags of garbage out, and I'm not quite ready to go out without any eyebrows at all :P
