Today was the big day - my daughter is now living with her partner and roomies. After a kerfuffle with U-Haul concerning how to pay, I arrived at my apartment shortly after 9:15am after having stopped at a friend's place to pick up a chaise lounge and then a Dollarama to buy all new pillows for my daughter because her old ones were getting tossed into the trash today. It took us about an hour to load all the garbage into the van and then my daughter came with me to the dump. At least 20-30 minutes waiting in line before we were directed to a spot to back up to so we could toss all the bags we had. One thing that surprised me was the smell of all the bags in the back of the van while we were waiting in line...it was kinda gross, but it's likely because we were in close quarters with it that we noticed it. I'm very glad it's all gone now. Not that there still won't be additional bags of garbage gathered as I go through the rest of the stuff on the floor and in my room...

I've been making progress on the cleaning that my apartment has needed for way longer than I care to admit. And I'm actually SEEING that progress. Sure, I've got numerous garbage bags filled with stuff that I will be taking to the dump the weekend after this upcoming one, but the bags are still better than the stuff laying all over the floor. I can move bags if I need to instead of having to try to kick things out of my way and hoping that nothing hazardous is in the pile I'm trying to shift. I've requested the first week of May off so that I do a deep clean and get things moved around to my liking. Not to mention that I plan on painting the bedrooms finally, starting with the one my daughter will be vacating. I may not be able to take the entire week off, but I figure that even one extra day off will be better than nothing at all. As of right now, I'm hoping to have gotten everything bagged up for the dump run at the end of the month. The plan right now is to p...

A couple nights after my previous post my friend and I talked about how she had gotten on at work. I told her flat out how what she did came across both to me and my big boss. She made some excuses for her actions and why she felt she wasn't in the wrong. One of her statements left me stunned. Sure, her regulat job (and career) deals with confidential medical information, and she's got a degree or something in medical information, but you don't need a damn degree or even a post-secondary certificate in how to fucking file things. What you need is to be trusted to follow the lead of the person heading up the project. Honestly, I could have chosen anybody employed by the company to help me, but I felt that due to her regular job that she was the best choice in terms on knowing she understands confidentiality AND it gave her some hours that she would not otherwise have gotten. If I'd known she would go above my head and then carry on the way she did when I first tried to e...

So, I have a feeling that I'm going to be suggesting that a friend of mine be put elsewhere at work, or just plain let go. Or at least not work with me on any projects at all. Why? Because right now I feel that she can't see where or how she overstepped, and basically made excuses for what she did. At work I've been put in charge of doing a file cull for the RMTs and my boss left the project in my hands, and said I could bring in my friend to help as it would get done quicker than just having me do it, and it would give my friend some hours where she's not on the hotel desk schedule right now. After our first attempt at the file cull using the instructions given by the spa manager and realizing how useless it will be to keep thousands of folders for clients who haven't been in since before 2019 that we could just keep the files from Jan 2020 in the file room and box the rest to go into on-site storage. I made it clear that _I_ was going to talk to the spa manager AN...

We have a moving date too! April 30th, 2022. I have booked a cargo van for 10 hours on that day so that we can 1) get the kid moved, and 2) do a much needed dump run so that there is a lot less stuff in the apartment to have to deal with at a later date. I have until then to try to find replacement furniture as I had offered my loveseat and matching chair to my daughter, with the idea that I would have something to replace it by the time they moved out. But then the loveseat I was going to buy on installment through Amazon was sold out, and the chair a friend was going to give me will not fit up my stairs. My plan is to get my hands on a decent futon and frame by the time she moves out - not one of those klik-klak ones that are too low to the ground and highly uncomfortable, but baring that, well, anything in half-decent shape will do as long as I can get it up my stairs and into my apartment. So far, I have started putting things into a bin for her take with her when she moves. There ...

It's been 29 days since my phone meeting with the big boss, and it's been...interesting? I guess that is a good word to describe it. There have obviously been changes in how things are being done, and now that we've managed to shake out where things go and how it's all going to work, it's much better. At first I was a bit pissed off over losing my supervisory role, but in the end it is actually a good thing. Why? Because I have no patience for idiots and liars, and I was unable to sugarcoat it. I am known for being blunt and letting people know that I've caught onto their bullshit. Instead, I can now just note the guest's concerns and pass it along to one of my coworkers and my current direct report to deal with. I will tell those two my suspicions and why, but other than that I don't have to make any major decisions about how to deal with their complaints. If it is within my power to handle, obviously I will, but anything major gets passed along. I have...

Had a phone meeting with the big boss yesterday, and while it didn't accomplish everything I had hoped some things were straightened away. I now know that the spa manager has very little say over what I do and that I do not report to her while my actual boss is off. I report to the big boss right now, and only if I am working a spa shift do I have to take any direction from the spa manager. And even then I have the right to question her choices. It helps that I do not have a lot of hours up in the spa in the first place or it would likely get bad really quickly up there between her and I. I will also be taking on payroll for the entire property effective as of this pay period. As well as auditing the registers for the spa and hotel starting on my next shift this week. And for whatever reason, today the spa manager has decided that before every shift now that the spa will be having a small huddle. But doesn't say what will happen for those who start later - which will be pretty ...
