Random Ramblings Are Random

A week ago I managed to crack the screen of my gaming laptop. Thankfully it still works with a monitor - I test it at work, but as it's a new computer I knew that I would need a new monitor because the spares I have floating around do not have HDMI capabilities and my laptop does not have VGA capability. I'll be recycling those monitors or donating them somewhere that can actually make use of them...I have a habit of grabbing and holding onto old tech. Probably comes from my old tech geek years. Years that feel like a lifetime ago.

So, my lovely gaming laptop that I haven't even had for a year has popped a BSOD with a video card error. Supposedly it's supposed to just be software related, mostly the video drivers, but it's still a piss off. I will see if a driver update needs to be done once everything reloads. Otherwise I may looking at having to flatten the had and reinstall everything from the bottom up. Fuck. I hate doing full wipes these days because of how long it takes.  I may end up flattening it anyway, once I've gotten everything backed up to my external drive. I used to reformat my computers once every six months but I've gotten out of that habit for some reason. Maybe it's time to get back to it, and keep as little as possible directly on the laptop. Bleh.

Hours are picking up at the hotel, and this weekend I'll be working until midnight for the first time since before the first shut-down. How long it will keep up is anybody's guess, but I know that as one of the two people that were brought back last summer, that I'll get to keep a good chunk of my hours into the slow season. And there is always EI to pull me through the slow season, if necessary. I've been making a bit of an attempt to diversify my wardrobe colours a bit lately. I still wear mostly black, but once in a while I'll add a pop of colour. For example, today I am wearing a mustard yellow top with my black pants and black cardigan. And instead of the black sneakers I wore for the past two shifts I'm wearing black flats. Yesterday I wore a teal green t-shirt with my black pants and cardigan, but had on a pair of sneakers. For a couple of years now a friend of mine keeps talking to me about getting a place together when she leaves her husband. Well, considering she bails on me constantly to do things with the man and she keeps posting about what they are doing or what he's bought her, it's pretty clear that she's never going to leave him. Honestly, it's just as well, because I like where I am in life right now. And I don't want the drama of a messy divorce to fuck things up.

I know that it appears I never get any views, but that's fine by me. I don't blog for any sort of recognition. That's really not my style. I blog because it means I won't blow up at somebody, and if I rant on FB I know people run to whoever I may be ranting about and gossip about it. And I'm done with that. Unless, of course, I WANT them to gossip about it. Today I posted about how I'm tired of being a doormat and included a couple of very pointed examples concerning some people I know and have given more than once chance to. Yeah, I'm done with them. I can see why one of my friends usually only gives people one chance before writing them off. It's a lot less drama. Basically, I've come to the realization that a set of friends only bothers with me when they want something from me. Apparently we've got a part-time front desk agent being trained in starting on Wednesday. She used to work the desk at the spa connected to us, so my manager figured that would make her a decent fit at the hotel. Well, I mentioned to a couple of the spa desk girls that we've got this new girl training in...and...oof. It sounds like we may have our work cut out for us with her. From what I understand, she's really sweet, but she can't remember a damn thing. One of the girls upstairs said that she was called by this girl several times each shift the girl worked, asking how to do something that she'd done dozens of times each day. You'd think that this person would take notes, but apparently she refuses to take notes. I will eventually get to the point where I refuse to answer my phone if she does that to me. I have no patience for willfully stupid people like that. I suppose I should be grateful though that we are getting a new part-timer to help us out, but I...

I am so looking forward to the hotel, B&B, and spa getting back to normal-ish staffing levels so that 1) I can get back to f/t hours, and 2) schedule myself for actual day shifts once in a while. And perhaps that will lead to getting a raise! As of now I am officially doing the scheduling for the hotel and B&B - the spa handles their own scheduling, even though they do borrow two of the housekeepers to help on the days they don't have their own spa attendant. I just make sure to enter that into my schedule when I do it up so I know not to call them in for housekeeping. I'm also officially doing the ordering for all the accommodations properties now, which requires me to find out what we need for each one, and do up a list for the owners to use to go shopping. If we need any alcohol I have to pull up the NLC website so I can get the SKU number for each item we are ordering from there as well as the size of the bottle and name of the item or we end up with some really che...
