I don't usually do much for Christmas. Neither does my daughter. It hasn't been something we have celebrated much, especially once we no longer had to deal with spending time with my dysfunctional family. Besides, it's just entirely too commercial.
I am spending the night at my daughter's house because of work. Since I started at my current job I have worked most holidays, but the buses are off the road on Christmas Day and Boxing Day. Which means, that instead of paying a small fortune on taxis, it was cheaper to stay at my daughter's. Her place is way closer to my work than my own place - $7-ish for a taxi as opposed to $30-ish. I could technically walk to work from here, but my feet have been really messed up lately. And it is way too damn cold.
It has been a good visit with my daughter. She made us dinner - alfredo chicken penne. No slaving over a big meal, and this has been a regular thing for us for Christmas dinner anyway. The last time I went all out for a big dinner was our first Christmas here and I got very little thanks for it. Oh, my daughter enjoyed it and raved about how good everything was, but the two people I had for guests...well...there are many reasons why I no longer associate with either of them.
I do have a turkey sitting at home in my mini-fridge. A customer gave it to me a couple of days ago - she had been given two but only needed one, so she figured she'd give one away. I was the lucky person. The plan is to cook it on Saturday on my first day off. I let my landlady know that I would need to use her oven because the turkey is way too big for my toaster oven. I can't wait! I have to remember to pick up a foil roasting pan and a pack of bacon over the next couple of days so I'm ready to go. And maybe some more freezer bags. I will also make gravy with the giblets and freeze what I can.
For now though, I think I am going to lay down for a bit of a nap. Everybody has gone into their bedrooms, likely for the night. I am perfectly fine with that. I normally have a nap after work, but because I didn't go home after my shift today I couldn't take my usual nap. Such is life sometimes.
