So, I did end up working a shift last night. And the idiot who called out sick showed up to buy a few things from the store. I'm a firm believer that if you call out sick from work for whatever reason that you don't go near the place during the hours you were supposed to work. At least he looked like he wasn't feeling the greatest, but I'm from a generation that would show up to work even if we were half-dead. Different work ethics at play, obviously. And I did manage to get an hour of sleep before going into work yesterday.

I did end up buying a few things to eat for today, but not the sandwich and the can of pasta I was originally contemplating. Baked beans, Cheese Whiz, gummy candies, and a bag of chips...and only because I had reached out to my daughter to help get me home last night due to how shitty the buses are late at night in this city. Originally, I only had enough on my card to get me home, no tip, so I reached out to my kiddo for $25 - she sent me $30. Which meant I had enough to get a few different things, thankfully. Especially as I realized that the single cup of noodles I'd brought with me were not going to be enough to get me through my shift last night.

As it is today, I am getting my ass in gear to head out to buy some groceries. I have loads of frozen veggies, but now I need some meat. I don't even have any soup with meat in it at the moment, and I know that I need the protein and iron. I also need ground coffee. Ugh.

I plan on buying what I can at Dollarama, and then the rest at Sobey's. I'd rather go to Dominion only because they have a better selection of cheaper food items, but it would mean another bus ride that I really don't want to deal with, and, well, Dominion is owned by greedy assholes who don't pay their employees a living wage and also don't want to give their employees decent hours. Yeah, I used to work for Dominion a few years ago and left with maybe three days notice after they cut my hours from 32 to 24 after Snowmaggedon in 2020. It was like they were pissed that they had to pay their staff for the days we couldn't get in due to the state of emergency in our city where only essential service employees were really permitted to be out on the road - taxis and buses were grounded and that was how most of us working at Dominion got to and from work. So, no transportation for staff meant they couldn't staff the stores for us to be open. And considering the fact that I only took the job because they promised me a steady 32 hours a week, I was not going to stick around and see what other fuckery they were going to pull.

I'm grateful that I don't have to pay any rent out of this pay or I'd be scrambling even worse than I already am. As it is, I've got to make a big payment on my electrical bill so they don't cut me off...so that means, only enough cheap food to get me through the next week and only enough bus rides to get me to and from work until next payday. I do know that if things get truly desperate enough that my daughter will send me more money, but I hate having to ask her for help. Especially when I've just gotten paid.

I suppose one thing that will make it easier for me is that my best friend is gone at the end of the week for her Florida trip. I won't feel the need to spend money on eating at restaurants or going thrift shopping or spending much money in general. Basically, I'll be spending most of my time between work and home while she's gone. And cramming as much onto my bills as I can before my rest goes up.

Speaking of rent and that entire situation...my landlord never did show up, nor did he even attempt to reschedule his inspection. He also hasn't confirmed that it's a six-month notice to increase rent - although I know the provincial tenancy act quite well and I KNOW that he legally must give me six months notice before a rental increase. Sure, I've paid well below market value for my place for over 11 years, and I will still be paying below market value, but that doesn't mean that he can't follow the law in this regards. I can well imagine that when I still pay the current rental rate to him on the month he says it's supposed to go up he'll suddenly rear his head...he's not going to like being told that I am well-versed in the tenancy act because, one, I used to be a mod on the FB page that deals with this sort of shit, but, two, I've also actually done the footwork and helped out people IN PERSON with sorting out their rights under the tenancy act - I HAVE to know the act inside and out in order to give these people any sort of direction. So. I'm waiting for there to be a bit of a fight on my hands, not that I want one. And if they try to raise my rent again sooner than they are permitted under the law, they're going to find out that I don't play games. I'm already keeping my ear to the ground to potentially move closer to work, and preferably without roomies involved.

Surprisingly enough, I'm not as wiped out today as I feared I would be. Sure, I'm procrastinating like mad here, but I was still awake shortly after 7am and I've even eaten something for breakfast. Now I'm contemplating putting some rides on my bus pass, putting together a shopping list, and then getting dressed so I can get my shopping done and over with before coming back home to fart around and not do a whole lot of anything for the rest of the day. I suppose I should get on with it then. *sigh*
