Had a phone meeting with the big boss yesterday, and while it didn't accomplish everything I had hoped some things were straightened away. I now know that the spa manager has very little say over what I do and that I do not report to her while my actual boss is off. I report to the big boss right now, and only if I am working a spa shift do I have to take any direction from the spa manager. And even then I have the right to question her choices. It helps that I do not have a lot of hours up in the spa in the first place or it would likely get bad really quickly up there between her and I. I will also be taking on payroll for the entire property effective as of this pay period. As well as auditing the registers for the spa and hotel starting on my next shift this week. And for whatever reason, today the spa manager has decided that before every shift now that the spa will be having a small huddle. But doesn't say what will happen for those who start later - which will be pretty ...
It's a well known fact that I'm a huge fan of thrift shopping, even places like Value Village where I know that it's a for-profit business. At least they don't hide it like some *coughcoughSalvationArmycough* Anyhow, my best friend and I hit there twice this week, and on the last visit I scored a basically brand new Cuisinart (tm) Griddler Gourment for $9.99. A similar model retails at Canadian Tire for $139.99! And other than a thick layer of greasy dust - probably from sitting unused in somebody's kitchen for ages - it's perfect! When looking for the exact model as mine, I can only find it selling for $359 on Amazon. I think I got the score of a lifetime! At work, we have a similar model in the kitchen that we used to use when the café was open. It was used only as a sandwich/panini press, and it definitely got a lot of use. The plates were coated with burnt on crap that you couldn't get off without ruining what was left of the non-stick coating. So, when ...
So, I have realized that over all of my years working that several places of employment have either closed down or had a complete management/staff change-over since they screwed me over in some way. Yes, seriously. Never piss off a witch. Why? Well, settle in for a bit of a read. My first real paid job outside of babysitting was back in 1988 - an A&W drive-in restaurant, that last of it's kind in the region. I was hired to work as a cook, and I lasted about three months, give or take. It was a shitty job, but I was still proud to be working. I was 16, and still going to high school full time. I had done some paid stints with my schools cafeteria cooking for large banquets, but that didn't prepare me for the world of fast food. We didn't have timers like McD's has to know when food was finished cooking - we had to go by how it looked, and we certainly sent a LOT of raw food out of that kitchen. And I was often left alone during a rush to try to cook everything on my ...
Three days off back to back, and I'm very happy for it! I was supposed to be off all this week but because the spa manager couldn't get off her ass to find out if I would still get vacation pay with us being partially shut down I decided that I would work as many shifts as I could get this week. 28 hours is nothing to sneeze at, plus there is a good chance that I'll make another $50 on top of that if I have to stay at the hotel overnight. Anyhow, back to my three days off back to back. Yesterday was my first day off and I spent a good chunk of it just sleeping. I did go out grocery shopping and came home $200 shorter, but with five bags of groceries. Six if you include the small one I'd put the milk into. It's normal for me to sleep the first day of any block of days I get off, but it is not often I do my grocery shopping on that day. Perhaps I need to get into the habit because it frees up the next day for house stuff that needs to get done. Today, I was up and ou...
It's been one of those days where you get the feeling that your workplace is going to end up tanking.  Why? Considering that we're only open 3 days a week at the spa right now, and the hotel does not need full staffing either. And that the person doing payroll submission last pay period and next seems to have her panties in a knot over the fact that I'm getting more hours than she is. Sorry Ms. Spa Manager but I've got more skills under my belt than you do and can do pretty much everything other that massages or esthetician services, while you can barely do your own job. Hell, the look on her face last week when I told her that I didn't get a minimum of 30 hours a week that I was going to go sit on EI spoke volumes. As did her flat out admitting that she doesn't know even half of what I do, and is not as comfortable with handling emails, chats, and FB as I am. Hell, she can't even log into her computer in her office properly to get at anything - I've off...
Things on the home front seem to have settled down a bit. At least the kid and I aren't at each other's throats right now, and that is all for the good. My daughter will be moving out, that much we know for sure, we just aren't sure when as of yet. Largely because I am not back to work f/t yet, and she doesn't want to leave me fucked for rent. So, probably once I return to work 40hrs a week and maintain it for at least a month is when she will probably give me her notice. Or June 1st at the latest. I have decided that I will remain here and cut back my spending on needless things. Honestly, if I'm not spending mindlessly, I can afford the rent and bills here. Even on EI, but it would be extremely tight, especially as I have bills I absolutely MUST catch up on before my daughter moves out. One of my friends has said that she'll move in to help with rent and bills, but this is the same person who has been saying that she is going to leave her husband for as long a...
It's been a *grand* start to 2022, let me tell you! So, my dental plate broke - the two front teeth snapped off on the back. And guess who doesn't have health benefits due to being laid off? That would be me, of course. Thankfully there was enough of the plastic-y part of the gums on the back of the two front teeth that a bit of Crazy Glue was able to repair them until I can take them in to get properly fixed. I know that it's not ideal, but going without my teeth is even less ideal, so such is life. I have a bottle of crazy glue in my purse at all times now, just in case. I'm currently laid off work but we're supposed to be going back to work this coming Wednesday. I have no idea what it means for me, but I know that I will be having a discussion with my bosses if I don't get f/t hours like I'm supposed to. I'm not merely a spa receptionist - I'm a front desk manager, and as such I'm supposed to be getting f/t hours. I don't even care if not...
