Life update...my live is just one boring slog lately
So, since my last post I haven't been doing a whole lot, tbh.
Housework is a never ending struggle, especially with my depression hanging around for days on end. I haven't done anything in terms of making SCA garb, other than decide that the medium weight dark blue wool I'd bought for a Musketeer-inspired cloak will likely be made into a boned kirtle instead. I have had my kitchen table mostly cleared off once in the past couple of months, but my carpal tunnel pain has interfered with sewing even the smallest project.
I did manage to complete this year's NaNoWriMo project...well, I was a renegade and simply added more onto a writing project I've been working on for the past couple of years. I made word-count for the month, and that's the most important thing, I suppose.
Cleaning, well. Mostly I've been focusing on at least making sure I've got clean clothes for work. I have a LOT more laundry I should/could do as well, but I honestly don't have the mental fortitude to do it all. And that's not including actually putting any of it away. The actual food prep/cooking part of the kitchen is not as bad as it has been in previous days/months/years, but this is largely because I've been using a lot of tin-foil to line baking sheets and pans, as well as using disposable plates and cutlery. Hey, whatever works, right? I know that it's not the most frugal way to go, but it's better than not eating at all. Sometimes, when your mental health is in the shitter you need to make compromises, and using disposable stuff is mine right now.
I have a lot of dry garbage to toss out. Much of it is in bags, but those bags have been sitting in my living room for weeks now. I suppose it's better than when several of them were taking up space in my bedroom instead, right? Now I just have to get them out of the house and out onto the curb for garbage day...probably not all at once, mind you, because there are a LOT of these bags, sadly.
I have also come to the conclusion that I have a ton of clothing that I don't wear for whatever reason. Oh, I've got my wardrobe staples, both for work and not work, but I've got way too much clothing for one person. In the past I'd planned on figuring out a capsule wardrobe so that I could mix and match, but I do need to keep some stuff strictly for work to make it easier in that regards, especially because I don't dress extreme for work. I'm an Elder Goth who doesn't fully Goth it up every day, and very rarely do I put the effort in for work. Hell, they're lucky if I've bothered drawing on eyebrows. So, I sort of almost need three separate sets of clothing - work, full Goth, and lazy Goth. Not including what I may, or may not, wear to bed - this usually depends on the weather and how freakin' warm my bedroom is.
I've also come to the conclusion that I really need to invest in a futon for the living room. With my bedroom being on the side of the house facing the street, I find that if there is a lot of noise along my street that I have a hell of a time sleeping during the day. As a night-shift worker, it is important that I sleep during the day for a good chunk of time so that I can function at work. This means sleeping in the living room if I get a futon. Right now I've only got a love seat and that simply isn't big enough to actually sleep on. I could likely get away with a regular-sized couch, but having a futon means we can have overnight guests if we choose, especially as I don't always plan on working nights. Of course, on the weekends I would sleep in my bedroom during the day so my kid could use the living room on their days off...lucky bugger is off most weekends.
So, for the time being, I will keep picking away at my clutter and my mound of useless clothing, tossing out bags of stuff each garbage day. One day I will have a mostly clutter-less home, and will be better able to give notice to the landlord when the time comes for my kid and I to move out of this place. But for now, time to go play some more WoW - it's what I do late at night on my days off because doing housework at this time of night would only piss off the folks living below me and might interfere with my kid's sleep...and considering that my kid is the main breadwinner these days, it's best not to interfere with their sleep.
